The program is interdepartmental and interdisciplinary, providing broad-based instructional training in biomedical and toxicological sciences and focused research training in a subspecialization of toxicology. Predoctoral trainees have the flexibility of being enrolled in a participating department in the School of Public Health or Medical School while completing a core curriculum that includes coursework in toxicology, biostatistics, pharmacology, biomedical sciences and mechanisms of xenobiotic action. Research specializations include neurotoxicology, reproductive toxicology, developmental toxicology, biotransformation, cancer biology, cell signal transduction, oxidative stress/free radicals, microsensor and nanosensor development, genetic toxicology and human toxicology. Research training emphasizes molecular, cellular and pathophysiologic mechanisms of intoxication and the application of mechanistic-based approaches to studies of human populations.
