(April 22, 2008) - National Weather Service Tampa Bay forecast office Meteorologist-in-Charge, Brian LaMarre, was the guest speaker at the West Central Florida American Meteorological Society's (AMS) Annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony at the Tampa Yacht Club. His presentation focused on the future of local weather services and collaboration with National Weather Service partners.
WTVT-TV Fox13 News Meteorologist and Chapter President Andy Johnson emceed the event which provided an excellent opportunity to interact with AMS members, students and local media. In addition to Johnson, WFLA-TV NBC 8 Chief Meteorologist Steve Jerve and Tampa's Bay News 9 Chief Meteorologist Mike Clay were among the attendees.
The West Central Florida Chapter was chartered in 1961. Currently, it has 100 members who meet at various Tampa Bay area locations including the National Weather Service forecast office in Ruskin, local television stations, the Museum of Science and Industry, Mac Dill Air Force Base and Hillsborough Community College.
Founded in 1919, the AMS is dedicated to the development and dissemination of information and education on the atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences. Its membership includes more than 11,000 professionals, professors, students and weather enthusiasts. The AMS publishes nine atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic journals and sponsors more than a dozen conferences annually.
