NPPTL Vacancy Announcements

The National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory (a division of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) is seeking an individual to serve as a General Engineer or Physical Scientist in the Technology Research Branch.

This position has responsibility for conducting research projects to develop and/or improve systems, methods or technology to reduce or mitigate physical and/or engineering workplace hazards. The incumbent will be responsible for developing a nationally recognized research program focused on closed circuit (e.g., self-contained self rescuer, rebreathers, closed-loop self contained breathing apparatus) breathing systems used for respiratory protection during mine escape and emergency response. In addition, the incumbent prepares findings for publication or presentation at scientific meetings.

Candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply: human responses to wearing safety equipment, carbon dioxide scrubber technologies, end of service life indicators, oxygen generation technologies, breathing gas management approaches, materials for respirator components, materials for storing chemicals and high pressure gases, or technologies for toxic gas (e.g., carbon dioxide) elimination or filtration.

As described in the vacancy announcement, the position requires a bachelor's or higher degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics from an accredited college or university and specialized experience including researching, developing, evaluating, or testing technologies to prevent work-related injury, illness or death.
