Work-RISQS

Work-RISQS provides a web-based public access query system for obtaining national estimates (number of cases) and rates (number of cases per hours worked) for nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses treated in U.S. hospital emergency departments. Users may interactively query based on demographic characteristics, nature of injury/illness, and incident circumstances for the years 1998, 1999, and 2000. Additional data-years will be added in future updates.

Work-RISQS is limited to work-related injuries and illnesses treated in emergency departments; and Work-RISQS does not include cases that were treated in other medical venues. These data provide an important view of the occupational injury burden in America and complement other national data systems.

Work-RISQS data are collected in partnership with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission through an occupational supplement to the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS-Work) by using a national probability sample of U.S. hospitals. NIOSH partners with CPSC to collect all work-related cases in addition to CPSC's collection of non-work cases involving a consumer product.
