KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Federal and State officials announced today that the Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) located in Arkansas City and Augusta will close Friday, December 11.

"The Disaster Recovery Centers will be operating through 6:00 p.m., Friday, December 11, 1998," Carol Coleman, federal coordinating officer, said, "But even after the center closes, FEMA will be as close as your telephone."

"People can call the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-525-0321, or TTY 1-800-660-8005 for the hearing- and speech-impaired, to find out about assistance programs and the status of their applications," Coleman continued.

Disaster victims may still register for assistance by calling toll-free 1-800-462-9029, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Those who are hearing- or speech-impaired can call TTY 1-800-462-7585.
