ARENA IACUC 101 - Valuable for new Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) members, administrators, veterinarians, IACUC trainers, animal care staff, researchers, regulatory personnel, and others interested in IACUC roles and responsibilities
On August 13, 2001, the Applied Research Ethics National Association (ARENA) in conjunction with the Purdue University - West Lafayette, Indiana and the NIH Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) will present ARENA IACUC 101.
IACUCs have an enormous responsibility to ensure the humane care and use of laboratory animals. This course will help educate those who are responsible for their institution’s animal care program covering the rules, regulations and policies necessary for compliance.
The morning and early afternoon sessions will provide a basic yet comprehensive overview of the laws, regulations, and policies that govern the humane care and use of laboratory animals supplemented with examples and possible approaches for successful and effective administration. Current resources available to help IACUCs keep abreast of the latest information as well as take advantage of networking opportunities will also be covered. The documents and information provided during the course will be used in various practice scenarios designed to put the newly acquired knowledge to use. The later afternoon session will challenge participants to consider, deliberate and develop action plans for a variety of potential IACUC scenarios. The program will be delivered by a top-notch faculty renowned for their expertise in institutional animal care and use issues and program development including representatives from both private and academic biomedical research institutions as well as the AAALAC, USDA and OLAW.
