Access Staff, Office of General Counsel
The Access Staff, within the Office of General Counsel, consists of the National Archives:
- Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act Officer and
- FOIA Specialist, working under the general direction of the Director of Litigation.
The Access Staff is responsible for processing FOIA and Privacy Act requests for the National Archives' operational records (those records that the National Archives creates or receives in carrying out its mission and responsibilities as an executive branch agency).
The Access staff also provides administrative staffing for all FOIA and Privacy Act Appeals that are decided by the Deputy Archivist of the United States.
In addition, this staff:
- Formulates and recommends policy on the implementation of the FOIA and Privacy Act agency-wide,
- Provides advice, guidance, and training to the National Archives staff on access related issues,and
- Maintains the National Archives FOIA and Privacy Act web pages.
