2002 State Assessment Data Analysis for Schools In Need of Improvement
The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) reviewed the results of the 2002 state assessment data to determine the progress of the 259 schools that were identified last year as "in need of improvement." The analysis of these 259 schools shows the following:
Nine schools met state standards and have been removed from school improvement status. These schools met state standards in language arts literacy and mathematics.
Thirty-six schools successfully met their adequate yearly progress targets for one year in language arts literacy and mathematics. If they meet targets again next year, they will be removed from the list.
Six schools met their adequate yearly progress targets in both content areas on one test grade level. However, the school did not make adequate yearly progress on the other test grade level. The designation of "in need of improvement" continues with these schools despite the fact that many did reach or exceed their targets in one of two grade levels.
The remaining 208 schools continue to be identified as "in need of improvement" for another year. These schools did not meet their adequate yearly progress targets despite the fact that many did reach or exceed their targets in one of two content areas.
Title I schools remaining in improvement status will continue to offer school choice, as well as supplemental educational services in the 2003-2004 school year.
Following is the list of the 259 schools and their updated status.
