Sept. 11 Observance Webcast, Satellite Feed

The Department of Defense today announced that a live satellite feed and video webcast of the Sept. 11 observance ceremony will be offered, with information on both feeds on the DefenseLink website (http://www.defenselink.mil). Video and audio of the ceremony is being made available so that servicemembers and people around the world can watch the event. Following the initial live webcast, an archived recording of the webcast will be available for one year.

The webcast streaming video will be directly available via DefenseLink by clicking on the "Special Reports" banner. The satellite feed will be available on Ku-band Galaxy 10/Transponder 23 from 8-11am EDT; downlink frequency is 12160MHz (vertical); location is 123 degrees West, and audio frequency is 6.2/6.8.

The ceremony features addresses by President George W. Bush, Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Richard B. Myers. The large U.S. flag flown from the side of the Pentagon after the Sept. 11 attack will be unfurled in the same location during the ceremony, and a moment of silence will be observed at 9:37 a.m., the time at which American Airlines Flight 77 hit the Pentagon on Sept. 11. The President will also lead the Pledge of Allegiance during the ceremony, accompanied by 100 children from the Washington, D.C.-area schools attended by the children aboard Flight 77. A complete schedule of events is listed below. The ceremony is not open to the general public.

* 9:30 a.m. Ceremony begins with a prelude, performed by the U.S. Army Band.

* Invocation, Chaplain (Maj. Gen.) Gaylord T. Gunhus, chief of chaplains, U.S. Army.

* "Last Full Measure of Devotion," performed by the U.S. Army Band and soloist Chief Petty Officer Tracy Thomas, U.S. Coast Guard Band.

* Moment of silence.

* Pentagon flag unfurled.

* National Anthem, performed by the U.S. Marine Corps Band and soloist Staff Sgt. Kevin Bennear, U.S. Marine Corps Band.

* Pledge of Allegiance.

* Address by Gen. Richard B. Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

* "A Hero for Today," performed by the U.S. Army Band and soloist Staff Sgt. Steve Cramer, U.S. Army Band.

* Address by Donald H. Rumsfeld, Secretary of Defense.

* "United Through It All" -- performed by the U.S. Army Band and soloist Petty Officer 1st Class Reid Williams, U.S. Navy Band.

* Address by George W. Bush, President of the United States.

* Benediction, Chaplain (Rear Adm.) Barry C. Black, chief of chaplains, U.S. Navy.

* "God Bless America," performed by the U.S. Army Band and soloist Chief Master Sgt. Patricia Wolfe, U.S. Air Force Band.
