U.S. AND ITALY TO NEGOTIATE NEW TAX TREATY

The United States and Italy have agreed to resumerenegotiating the income tax treaty currently in effect betweenthe two countries. A previous round of negotiations was held in1992. The current treaty was signed in 1984 and does not fullyreflect current policies in the United States and Italy. A firstround of talks is scheduled to be held during the week ofSeptember 8, 1997 in Rome.
