Student Spotlight
Maya J. Williams, C'2011, was recently crowned Miss Black New Jersey 2009. An economics major with a double minor in management and organization and dance, Williams will soon compete for the coveted Miss Black USA 2009 title. A member of various dance groups including Movements of Praise, Williams helps choreograph teams in metro-Atlanta and New Jersey. Throughout the competition, Williams plans to promote her civic platform, "Save the Arts," aimed at incorporating art programs in local schools.

Lorielle Broussard, C'2003, an art department graduate and designer of the popular "Barack the Vote" signature tees currently sweeping the nation, will be featured on the cover of "Black Enterprise's" January edition that hits stands December 20. The article highlights the story of Barackawear Inc., the brainchild of Lorielle and her brother Brandon; and talks about the pair's new clothing lines YOTOWN and Qreative Jeanius.

Lauren McAlpin Recognized
in Magazine's '20 Under 20'

Lauren McAlpin, C'2011, spent her summer working with other teens to change the world. As a 2008 Youth Ambassador in the U.N. Association of USA's HERO campaign, McAlpin traveled to South Africa, where she built schools and homes, taught in Zulu-speaking schools, and assisted with medical exams. In January, Atlanta INtown newspaper will recognize McAlpin for her efforts in its "20 Under 20" feature.
