Office Of Information & Technology

 


As directed by the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Office of Information and Technology (OI&T) oversees and facilitates all IT activities of VA to improve the effectiveness of program operations and to assist line and staff organizations in the performance of their missions.

The office advises and assists, on matters relating to VA wide IT responsibilities and functions, including policy/budget formulation, planning, acquisition, execution, and oversight; internal and external coordination; development and analysis of Department-level program data; and assessment of Department IT requirements. IT's role is defined in OMB Circular A-130 which implements the Clinger-Cohen Act.


The office is composed of eight major organizational elements that report to the CIO and the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Information and Technology (Deputy CIO):

  • Deputy CIO for Benefits
  • Deputy CIO for Health
  • Deputy CIO for Memorial Affairs
  • Office of Enterprise Architecture Management
  • Office of Policy, Portfolio Oversight and Execution
  • Office of IT Operations
  • Office of Cyber and Information Security
  • Austin Automation Center

What We Do

The Office of Information and Technology (OI&T) oversees the acquisition, development, implementation of all IT resources within the Department. OI&T executes these responsibilities through the programs administered by the Deputy ClO’s for Health, Benefits, and Memorial Affairs and through programs which include cyber and information security; telecommunications; IT enterprise architecture management; and IT policy, portfolio oversight and execution, project management, and financial management.

OI&T is also responsible for the formulation of VA policies on e-Government; records management; directives management; Freedom of Information Act; the Privacy Act; data confidentiality
