Age related macular degeneration (AMD)

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a leading cause of visual impairment in the developed countries. The etiology and pathogenesis of AMD remain unknown, however, there is a complex interaction between genetic and environmental factors. Genetic variance analysis has become an attractive tool in the exploration of the genetic component of complex diseases such as AMD. Our main interests are molecular pathology, immunopathology, associations between AMD and various genetic polymorphisms, and animal models of the disease.
