MODIFICATION OF ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE NLM SENIOR INDIVIDUAL BIOMEDICAL INFORMATICS FELLOWSHIPS (F38) RELEASE DATE: May 20, 2003 NOTICE: NOT-LM-03-002 National Library of Medicine (NLM) (http://www.nlm.nih.gov) The Division of Extramural Programs, National Library of Medicine wishes to announce that the following sections in the PAR-03-109 (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-03-109.html), NLM SENIOR INDIVIDUAL BIOMEDICAL INFORMATICS FELLOWSHIPS (F38), have been modified as follows: 1. Section ELIGIBLE INSTITUTIONS: "Applications on behalf of prospective fellows may be submitted by domestic non-profit organizations, public or private, such as universities, colleges, hospitals, laboratories, units of State or local government, and eligible agencies of the Federal government. Foreign institutions are not eligible to apply." 2. First paragraph of the Section INDIVIDUALS ELIGIBLE TO BECOME PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATORS: "By the date of appointment, applicants must have at least ten full years of relevant independent professional experience beyond the qualifying degree and any associated postdoctoral or residency training. Relevant professional experience may include research experience (including industrial), teaching, or independent clinical responsibilities. Exceptions must be approved in advance by the NLM Program Officer. All candidates must be willing to spend a minimum of 50 percent of full-time professional effort conducting research and research career development during the entire award period." 3. Second paragraph of the Section SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: "To apply for support, an institution must submit an application on behalf of the individual seeking the fellowship." All other provisions of the modified Sections and of the Program Announcement PAR-03-109 (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/ PAR-03-109.html) remain unchanged.
