Law Library Hours to Change

Beginning Monday, October 30, the Law Library's public service hours will change. The new public service hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

After a thorough review of Law Library Reading Room usage, the Library of Congress concluded that primary usage of the Law Library's collections and services occurs between the core hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. After 5:00 p.m., in-person usage decreases significantly such that very few people use these collections and services. As a result, the Law Library's current closing time of 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday will change to 5:00 p.m.

Researchers with access to the Internet may consult electronically published legal and legislative sources 24 hours a day, and link to United States federal and state, foreign and international government websites, as well as local, national, and international law and government depository library websites, by connecting to the Law Library's Guide to Law Online and its Global Legal Information Network (GLIN) located at www.loc.gov/law/glin/GLINv1.

Researchers also have the option of visiting selected local law school libraries that provide extended hours of service to the general public. Users interested in learning more about Law Library services and collections may consult the Law Library's homepage located at www.loc.gov/law/public/htdoc/.
