W. Ernest Lyons, Ph.D.

Dr. Ernie Lyons is the Scientific Review Officer of the NINDS NSD-B study section, which reviews grant applications pertaining to neurodegenerative disorders (including ALS, Huntington’s and Parkinson’s diseases) and neuromuscular disorders. After receiving his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Lyons worked as a Scientist Associate at the National Cancer Institute in Frederick. He then moved to the Division of Neuropathology at Johns Hopkins University before joining the Review Branch at the NINDS in 2001. His research expertise includes neurotrophic factors, nerve injury and regeneration, cell death mechanisms and neurotoxicology
