Forest Plan Revision

Landscape Working Groups

Between February 2002 and November 2003, 42 landscape working group meetings were held throughout the five GMUG Geographic Areas attended by 1035 individuals.

The LWG process evolved and changed as the planning team worked through the five Geographic Areas, and the meeting notes and summaries reflect this. The use of Landscape Management Themes began with the North Fork Valley Geographic Area meetings. With the implementation of Landscape Management Themes, the Geographic Areas were divided into smaller units or landscapes as a tool to facilitate “place –based” discussions with participants. Additional Geographic Area Information includes landscape unit maps, and specific landscape information on current conditions.

The landscape working groups developed a vision statement for the future desired condition of the geographic area and provided recommendations for each specific landscape (with the exception of the Uncompahgre Plateau Landscapes). This information is summarized in "Vision, roles and contributions from Landscape Working Groups" for each geographic area. Challenges, risks and barriers to achieving the "vision" or desired conditions were also discussed.

Vision, Roles and Contributions from Landscape Working Groups (Phase 1.1 October 2004) - Summarizes the input from the initial public meetings for the Forest Plan Revision. The meetings were held in various communities within the Geographic Area. The participants developed a draft vision statement for the forest, provided input on the significance and role of the forest lands to their communities and on a regional and national level. Participants also provided recommendations for the future desired conditions of each landscape within the Geographic Area.
