Andres L. Buonanno, Ph.D., Senior Investigator |
|
Dr. Buonanno received his B.S. degree from Texas A&M University and his Ph.D. from Washington University in St. Louis where he worked with John Merlie on the cloning of acetycholine receptor genes and their transcriptional regulation. In 1988 he moved to NIH to work on the identification of transcription factors regulating the activity-dependent expression of muscle genes in response to distinct patterns of motoneuron activity. His laboratory has also worked on the cloning, expression and characterization of glutamate receptor splice variants during development. In 1999 Dr. Buonanno became a Senior Investigator. His group studies the molecular mechanisms that regulate glutamatergic transmission at maturing central synapses.
