Revisions to Chapters

Throughout the book:

  • CDC website addresses changed to reflect 2007 restructuring of CDC domain names and addresses

  • Minor errata and typographical errors corrected

  • References updated to reflect ACIP statements published during 2007

Chapter 2 (General Recommendations on Immunization)

  • Text was added to the screening section concerning contraindications to live attenuated influenza vaccine

Chapter 9 (Haemophilus influenza type b)

  • All references to HbOC (HibTITER) removed (HbOC is no longer available in the United States)

Chapters 10, 11, 12, 13 (measles, mumps, rubella, varicella)

  • Storage requirements for MMRV revised

  • Wording concerning preferential use of MMRV rather than MMR and varicella vaccines separately was removed

Chapter 13 (varicella)

  • Text regarding the second routine dose of varicella vaccine for children revised to reflect published recommendations

  • Recommendations for use of varicella vaccine in HIV-positive adults revised

Chapter 14 (hepatitis A)

  • Twinrix text revised to reflect the 4-dose schedule approved by FDA in 2007

  • Information on the use of hepatitis A vaccine for postexposure prophylaxis and international travel revised

Chapter 16 (influenza)

  • Information on Afluria added

  • Recommended age for inactivated influenza vaccine (6 through 59 months) added

  • Text regarding the minimum age, minimum interval, contraindications (wheezing) and storage requirements for live attenuated influenza vaccine revised

Chapter 18 (meningococcal disease)

  • Text revised to reflect change in minimum age of meningococcal conjugate vaccine

Chapter 19 (human papillomavirus)

  • Text revised to include published ACIP recommendations
