Volunteer Outreach Programs

One of the missions of Reserve Affairs is to support the President’s efforts to increase volunteerism and assist our nation’s youth under the USA Freedom Corps.

The Administration continues to challenge federal agencies to do more with our nation’s youth by promoting volunteerism and enhancing community service participation. Reserve Affairs has responded by being the staff proponent for the Department’s participation in programs sponsored by America’s Promise and the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Volunteer recognition is important as well. The Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal can be awarded to service members who make significant contributions to volunteer organizations either on or off a military installation.

Many local communities located near a military installation, armory or reserve center have seen an increase in DoD’s participation in supporting the President’s domestic priorities and addressing education, health, environment, homelessness, and hunger. Volunteering in community service revitalizes citizenry, increases team spirit, enhances character and leadership development and reinforces core values.
