Commissary Privileges Full-Time for Mobilized Guard and Reserve

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, May 16, 1996 – Families of Reserve and National Guard members mobilized for Operation Joint Endeavor have full-time commissary shopping privileges, Defense Commissary Agency officials recently announced.

By law, when Guard and reserve personnel are called to active duty, they and their eligible family members have unlimited shopping privileges," said agency spokesman Tim Ford. Normally, National Guard and Reserve service members not on active duty may shop 12 times a year at a commissary.

Ford said commissary privileges will provide a nonpay benefit designed to ease the financial strain of those called to active duty. Eligible family members need only show their identification card and a set of their sponsor's orders verifying active duty status.

For information on eligibility, family members of activated National Guard and Reserve members should contact the administrative staffs of their Guard or reserve unit.
