Wildland Fire Use

Wildland Fire Use is the management of naturally-ignited fires to achieve resource benefits where fire is a major component of the ecosystem.  Many natural resource values can be enhanced by allowing fire to play its natural role where private property and social values can be protected.

Wildland fire use is allowed in portions of the Superior National Forest. The forest is broken into three fire management zones. Wildland Fire Use is allowed in the non-blowdown fire management zone of the BWCAW.

When all conditions are appropriate for wildland fire use including weather, social, and political, wildland fire use is allowed. The Superior National Forest has a history of wildland fire use.
