The ICSPS is a new, standing committee for the NIH that will serve as a trans-NIH advisory group for Common Fund Programs. Its function is not entirely new. A similar group participated as an ad hoc committee in the Roadmap 1.5 process, providing recommendations to IC Directors concerning the ideas that had been submitted and their responsiveness to the Common Fund criteria. The ICSPS will review input gathered from the public concerning fundamental needs and emerging areas of opportunities. This input will be used to develop proposals for new Common Fund programs that will be considered by the NIH Leadership at an annual Common Fund Planning Retreat. The ICSPS is a task-oriented committee, so effort will be required to review all the ideas that are submitted and to meet to discuss and possibly shape the ideas. In addition to reviewing new ideas, the ICSPS will work with their IC Directors to identify staff with appropriate expertise and interest to plan and implement new Common Fund programs. Other Common Fund-related roles may be assigned to the ICSPS through ongoing consultation with the IC Directors. ICSPS Members:National Cancer Institute
