K01

Mentored Research Scientist Development Award (K01)
This omnibus NIH K01 program is supported by NCI, NHGRI, NIA, NIAAA, NIAID, NIAMS, NIBIB, NICHD, NIDCD, NIDDK, NIDA, NIEHS, NIMH, NINDS, NINR, NCCAM, NCRR, and ODS. The purpose of the K01 program is to provide support and “protected time” (3-5 years) for an intensive, supervised career development experience in the biomedical, behavioral, or clinical sciences leading to research independence. Awards are not renewable, nor are they transferable from one principal investigator to another.

International Research Scientist Development K01 Award (IRSDA) (K01)
This program is supported by FIC and ODS.  The purpose is the supports U.S. postdoctoral biomedical, epidemiological, clinical, social and behavioral scientists in the formative stages of their careers to conduct research in developing countries.

Promoting Careers In Aging and Health Disparities Research (K01)
This program is supported by NIA. Eligible individuals are applicants who have been determined by the grantee institution to be committed to a career in health disparities research related to aging and who are members of or knowledgeable about health disparity population groups.

The Bernard Osher Foundation/NCCAM CAM Practitioner Research Career Development Award (K01)
This program is supported by NCCAM. The purpose of this K01 is to provide research training support for CAM Practitioners with clinical doctorates, who have had limited opportunities for research training, but a strong desire to pursue a career in CAM research.

NCI Mentored Research Scientist Development Award to Promote Diversity (K01)
The NCI invites K01 applications from individuals representative of groups that have been shown to be underrepresented in health-related science, who have been recipients of an NIH Research Supplement to Promote Diversity Award, any NRSA (individual F31/F32 or institutional T32), or can demonstrate that they have been supported in a mentored capacity within any research grant equivalent to an NIH peer-reviewed research grant.

NIDDK Mentored Research Scientist Development Award (K01) 
The NIDDK invites K01 applications from advanced postdoctoral and/or newly independent research scientists (usually with a Ph.D. degree) in biomedical or behavioral sciences who are pursuing careers in research areas supported by the NIDDK.

NINDS Career Development Award to Promote Diversity in Neuroscience Research (K01)
Supported by NINDS, the objective of this program is to promote diversity among faculty-level neuroscience investigators who are competitively funded to conduct independent research.

NINR Mentored Research Scientist Development Award for Underrepresented or Disadvantaged Investigators (K01)
The purpose of this NINR K01 is to encourage the development of qualified underrepresented or disadvantaged nurse scientists to become independent investigators in research settings.

K02

Independent Scientist Award (K02)
This omnibus NIH K02 program is supported by NHLBI, NIA, NIAAA, NIAID, NICHD, NIDCD, NIDCR, NIDA, NIEHS, NIMH, NINDS, and ODS. The K02 provides support for newly independent scientists who can demonstrate the need for a period of intensive research focus as a means of enhancing their research careers. The K02 is intended to foster the development of outstanding scientists and to enable them to expand their potential to make significant contributions to their field of research.

K05

Senior Scientist Research and Mentorship Award (K05)
This program is supported by NIAAA and NIDA. The K05 is intended to provide protected time for outstanding senior scientists who have demonstrated a sustained high level of productivity conducting biomedical research relevant to the scientific mission of the appropriate institute to focus on their research and to provide mentoring of new investigators.

Established Investigator Award in Cancer Prevention & Control
The NCI Established Investigator Award (K05) provides qualified cancer research scientists in the fields of cancer prevention, control, behavioral, and/or population sciences with protected time to devote to research and to mentoring of new investigators.

K07

Academic Career Award (K07)
This program is supported by NIA, NIAAA, NCCAM, and ODS. The K07 supports individuals interested in introducing or improving curricula in a particular scientific field as a means of enhancing the educational or research capacity at the grantee institution. The K07 supports two types of activities; (1) Development: for more junior candidates who are interested in developing academic and research expertise; and (2) Leadership: for more senior individuals who are interested in improving the curricula and enhancing the research capacity within an academic institution.

Cancer Prevention, Control, Behavioral, and Population Sciences Career Development Award (K07)
This program is supported by NCI. This funding opportunity represents the continuation of a long-standing NCI-supported program that provides support individuals with health professional or science doctoral degrees who are not fully established investigators and who want to pursue research careers in the cancer prevention, control, population, and/or behavioral sciences.

K08

Mentored Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Award (K08)
This omnibus NIH K08 program is supported by NCI, NEI, NHLBI, NIA, NIAAA, NIAID, NIAMS, NIBIB, NICHD, NIDCD, NIDCR, NIDDK, NIDA, NIEHS, NIGMS, NIMH, NINDS, NCCAM, and ODS. The K08 represents the continuation of a long-standing NIH program that provides support and “protected time” to individuals with a clinical doctoral degree for an intensive, supervised research career development experience in the fields of biomedical and behavioral research, including translational research.  Individuals with a clinical doctoral degree interested in pursuing a career in patient-oriented research should refer to the NIH Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award (K23).

Paul B. Beeson Career Development Awards in Aging (K08 & K23)
This program is supported by NIA. This program provides 3-5 years of support to clinically-trained faculty members in strong research environments to enable them to gain skills and experience in aging research, under the guidance of a mentor or mentors, and to establish an independent program of research in this field.

NIDDK Mentored Clinical Scientist Award to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research (K08)
This program is supported by NIDDK. This program is a 3 year career award made to clinician scientists from diverse backgrounds including individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups and individuals from socially, culturally, economically, or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds. This award provides an opportunity for specialized study in NIDDK-relevant research areas for clinician scientists committed to a career in laboratory or clinical research.

NCI Mentored Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Award to Promote Diversity (K08)
This NCI-sponsored K08 award is specifically designed to promote career development of racially and ethnically diverse individuals who are underrepresented in health-related science and for those who are committed to a career in cancer health disparities, biomedical, behavioral or translational cancer research.

K18

Career Enhancement Award for Stem Cell Research (K18)
This program is supported by NHLBI, NIDDK, NIAAA, and NIEHS. The purpose of this program is to encourage investigators to obtain the training and career development they need to appropriately use stem cells in their research.

Short Term Career Development Award in the Environmental Health Sciences for Established Investigators (K18)
This program is supported by NIEHS. The purpose of these short term career development awards is to allow established, well funded clinician investigators to expand research programs to answer questions relevant to the environmental health sciences, and to provide established environmental health sciences research investigators the tools to expand their efforts to translational research.

Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award (K23)
This omnibus NIH K23 program is supported by NCI, NEI, NHLBI, NIA, NIAAA, NIAID, NIAMS, NIBIB, NICHD, NIDCD, NIDCR, NIDDK, NIDA, NIEHS, NIGMS, NIMH, NINDS, NINR, NCCAM, and ODS. The purpose of the K23 is to support the career development of investigators who have made a commitment to focus their research endeavors on patient-oriented research. Clinically trained professionals or individuals with a clinical degree who are interested in further career development in biomedical research that is not patient-oriented should refer to the Mentored Clinical Scientist Career Development Award (K08).

Paul B. Beeson Career Development Awards in Aging (K08 & K23)
This program is supported by NIA. NCI Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award to Promote Diversity (K23)
The NCI announce the availability of the K23 award for career development of ethnically and racially diverse individuals with a health professional doctoral degree from groups that have been shown to be underrepresented in health-related science.

K24

Midcareer Investigator Award In Patient-Oriented Research (K24)
This omnibus NIH K24 program is supported by NCI, NEI, NHLBI, NIA, NIAAA, NIAID, NIAMS, NIBIB, NICHD, NIDCD, NIDCR, NIDDK, NIDA, NIEHS, NIMH, NINDS, NINR, NCCAM, and ODS. The purpose of the K24 program is to provide support for clinician investigators to allow them protected time to devote to patient-oriented research (POR) and to act as research mentors primarily for clinical residents, clinical fellows and/or junior clinical faculty.

K25

Mentored Quantitative Research Development Award (K25)
This omnibus NIH K25 program is supported by NCI, NEI, NHLBI, NHGRI, NIA, NIAAA, NIAID, NIAMS, NIBIB, NICHD, NIDCD, NIDCR, NIDDK, NIDA, NIEHS, NIGMS, NIMH, NINDS, and ODS. The purpose of the K25 is to attract to NIH-relevant research those investigators whose quantitative science and engineering research has thus far not been focused primarily on questions of health and disease.

NIDCR Mentored Quantitative Research Development Award in A Systems Approach to Salivary Gland Biology (K25)
This program is supported by NIDCR. The purpose of this K25 is to attract to NIH-relevant research those investigators whose quantitative science and engineering research has thus far not been focused primarily on questions of health and disease.

Midcareer Investigator Award In Mouse Pathobiology Research
This program is supported by NCRR and NIA. This program seeks to support established, outstanding pathobiologists to allow them to devote protected time to mouse pathobiology research and mentor beginning investigators.

Clinical Research Curriculum Development
The Clinical Research Curriculum Award (CRCA) is designed to attract talented individuals to the challenges of clinical research and to provide them with the critical skills that are needed to translate basic discoveries into clinical treatments.

K99/R00

NIH Pathway to Independence (PI) Award (K99/R00)
This omnibus NIH K99/R00 program is supported by NCI, NEI, NHLBI, NHGRI, NIA, NIAAA, NIAID, NIAMS, NIBIB, NICHD, NIDCD, NIDCR, NIDDK, NIDA, NIEHS, NIGMS, NIMH, NINDS, NINR, NLM, FIC, NCCAM, NCMHD, and NCRR. The K99/R00 award provides an opportunity for promising postdoctoral scientists to receive both mentored and independent research support from the same award. The initial phase will provide 1-2 years of mentored support for highly promising, postdoctoral research scientists followed by up to 3 years of independent support contingent on securing an independent research position. Award recipients will be expected to compete successfully for independent R01 support from the NIH during the career transition award period.
