Washington, D.C. - Congressman Rick Larsen announced today that the Snohomish County Parks and Recreation Department will receive $340,000 for the first phase of a planned two-phase project to develop a new sports complex in Lake Stevens, WA.
“As a resident of Lake Stevens, I am particularly proud of the support the park will receive,” said Larsen. “This support will help improve the quality of life for the families in Lake Stevens. The new park will be something we can all enjoy.”
Sixteen acres of a 40-acre community park are to be developed with soccer fields, softball fields, and a baseball field, all of which will provide much needed youth-level sports opportunities to the greater Lake Stevens community.
“I have long been an advocate for community parks. It brings me great pleasure to know that our parks will grow to meet the needs of our growing community,” Larsen added.
While on the Snohomish County Council, Larsen was Chair of the Council’s Operations Committee that had legislative oversight of the parks department. While on the Committee, Larsen toured the proposed park sites in Lake Stevens and supported the establishment of a Parks Service Area.
The $340,000 comes from a grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund. The total cost for the project is expected to be $3,440,500. The second phase of the Lake Stevens project is dependent upon voter approval of a local bond measure later this year. |
