Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) and Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) announced today that the 41st Street Overcrossing Project will receive a total of $5,124,337 to be used toward the City of Everett’s Riverfront Redevelopment project.
“I am pleased to announce this important funding for Everett,” said Murray. “These investments in our infrastructure will not only improve transportation, but provide important economic stimulus to the region as well.”
Larsen added, “These funds will help get us on the right track - both literally and figuratively. We’ll be moving people and goods while building our community.”
$3,667,837 will be used to rehabilitate an existing rail line and construct a segment of new rail line on the west side of the landfill site, parallel to the existing Burlington Northern Santa Fe Rail mainline. Relocating the tracks will create an opportunity for habitat and environmental enhancement projects as well. These funds will come from the Federal Highway Administration’s Transportation and Community and System Preservation Pilot Program (TCSP).
The other $1,456,500 will come from the Federal Highway Administration’s National Corridor Planning and Development and Coordinated Border Infrastructure Program. These funds will be used to complete the funding of the 41st Street overcrossing - a regionally and nationally significant “FAST Corridor” project that provides direct access to the City’s riverfront properties while also eliminating one at-grade crossing to ensure more seamless travel through Everett for Port of Tacoma and Port of Seattle cargo bound for points east.
Murray chairs the Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, where she worked to secure this funding. Larsen sits on the Transportation Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. |
