Washington, D.C. - Today Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) expressed concern for Solectron workers and their families after Solectron announced the future closure of their Everett facility. Solectron will close the Everett plant by April 2002, eliminating 324 jobs in the Everett area.
“My heart goes out to the workers and their families,” said Larsen.
Larsen added, “Since September 11th, jobs for hard working people have fallen victim to an economic downturn. Solectron’s departure from Everett is a painful reminder of the work Congress must get done to restore our wounded economy and get back these jobs.”
Workers will receive a severance package that will include at least 60 days more pay and benefits. Solectron is working with other company locations and an outplacement firm to help employees find new jobs. Solectron assured Congressman Larsen that the layoffs had nothing to do with the local business environment. |
