Washington, D.C. - Rep. Rick Larsen introduced a resolution today recognizing the service of the crew members of the USS Enterprise Battle Group during its extended deployment for the war effort in Afghanistan.   The USS Enterprise Battle Group includes four Prowlers from NAS Whidbey – the VAQ 141 Shadowhawks.

“These dedicated men and women were looking forward to returning home to their families when they bravely turned around to lead the war against terrorism,” said Larsen.

Larsen explained, “The USS Enterprise Battle Group was en route to the United States after completing its deployment to the Persian Gulf when the terrorist attacks occurred on September 11th.   They immediately changed course and were involved in the first attack on Afghanistan in the war against terrorism.”

Larsen added, “The unquestionable dedication of the crew members and the strength of their families deserve to be commended. Our Prowlers have played a critical role in defeating terrorism.”

Recognizing the Prowler’s crucial role in our nation’s security, but without predicting what would happen on September 11th, Larsen hosted the third Prowler Awareness Day last February to demonstrate to members of Congress and staff the unique capabilities of the EA-6B Prowler.

“Presently, the Navy’s EA-6B Prowler aircraft is the only airborne radar jamming system available to protect Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force aircraft,” Larsen explained.  “As the sole provider of tactical electronic attack capability, it is imperative that the EA-6B force is ready, has the most effective jamming gear available, and has uninterrupted communications with strike and support assets.”

The House Resolution recognizing the USS Enterprise Battle Group was a bipartisan effort.  Larsen serves on the U.S House Committee on Armed Services and the Military Readiness Subcommittee.   He is an active member of the Electronic Warfare Working Group where he helps keep his colleagues informed of the military’s dependence on EA-6Bs.
