Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) will join with Snohomish County Letter Carriers and local volunteers next Saturday, May 14, in order to help offload mail trucks with the food they collect during the 13th Annual National Association of Letter Carriers National Food Drive.
Snohomish County communities will join more than 10,000 cities and towns across the U.S. in the largest one-day food drive in the country. Letter carriers will collect non-perishable food donations left by mailboxes and in post offices and deliver them to local community food banks, pantries and shelters. The national effort has resulted in delivery of well over a half billion pounds of donations to community food banks and pantries over the past 12 years.
“Snohomish County’s hunger needs are urgent and growing,” Larsen said. “This time of year is especially tough on hungry kids as school feeding programs shut down for the summer."
"Last year the Food Drive collected 375,000 pounds of food for local food banks," Larsen noted.
He continued, “I encourage all Snohomish County residents to participate in this worthwhile and effective Food Drive that helps feed hungry kids and hungry families in our local communities.”
He urged residents to come down to the Everett Post Office and help offload the trucks and see the immediate results of this great effort on Saturday, May 14 between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m.
