Larsen Announces $1 Million Grant to Stay in Snohomish County

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) commended the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) Core Group today for their decision to continue a $1 million grant allocation for upgrades to the Snohomish County Emergency Operations Center (EOC).  Snohomish County was awarded the $1 million from the UASI Core Group in 2005 for emergency management equipment upgrades.  The core group was considering diverting a portion or all of the money away from Snohomish County.

Larsen wrote a letter to James Mullen, Director of Washington’s Emergency Management Division, on February 15th expressing concern over the possibility of losing this grant allocation.  Larsen stressed the importance of the proposed upgrades to the Emergency Operations Center to the residents of Snohomish County.

“This is a big win for the citizens of Snohomish County.  The $1 million from UASI will enable Snohomish County to upgrade the equipment and infrastructure that is necessary to ensure the county is best prepared for potential disasters.

“The decision to keep this money in Snohomish County demonstrates the commitment of the UASI Core Group to keep our community safe and secure.  I am proud to have been a part of this solution that was focused on what was best for the residents of Snohomish County.

“I thank the UASI Core Group for rolling up their sleeves and giving the citizens of Snohomish County a prompt decision that will enormously benefit our community.”

Larsen represents Washington State’s 2nd Congressional District.
