Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) released the following statement on a resolution that was introduced in the Alaska state House of Representatives yesterday calling for the termination of Washington state’s involvement with the Alaska Marine Highway System. This ferry system transports passengers and vehicles between the U.S., Canada, and Alaska.
"The Alaska Marine Highway Ferry terminal in Bellingham, WA provides an essential service not just to the citizens of Whatcom County, but to the citizens and towns of Southeastern Alaska.
“For the past 17 years this ferry system has been a great example of the close economic relationship that is held between Washington state and Alaska. Let’s not lose sight of this successful partnership. Our states should continue to work on maintaining and finding new ways to work together."
