  Cancer Epidemiology Services

Cancer Epidemiology Services is comprised of two programs -- The New Jersey State Cancer Registry and the Cancer Surveillance Program.

These two programs address important issues surrounding cancer, its causes and effects on the people of New Jersey. Cancer Epidemiology Services, including the New Jersey State Cancer Registry, receives funding and other support from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) Program of the National Cancer Institute and the National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as state and other funding.

The New Jersey State Cancer Registry (NJSCR) is a population-based cancer registry dedicated to tracking the occurrence of cancers within the state. The NJSCR contains information on all cancer cases including the type of cancer, race, gender, age and residence at diagnosis, first course of treatment, and survival.

The Cancer Surveillance Program provides up-to-date statistics on cancer incidence and mortality from the NJSCR, addresses cancer cluster inquiries, monitors cancer patterns and trends, collaborates on and conducts cancer studies, and publishes findings in scientific journals.
