Medical Special Pay: General Guidance

DO’s Do Not…
Submit either the Recertification Sheet or the Validation Form (with contract), and NOT both! Bypass your programmatic channels or center’s liaison (aka Commissioned Corps Personnel Contact or CCPC) when submitting your MSP request or packet to OCCP/CDC.
Closely study the MSP 2004 Guidance for required document submissions (e.g., current medical license and clinical hours/privileges letter). Forget to submit “originals” of your clinical letter, contract, forms, etc.— faxed or zeroxed signatures are inappropriate.
Remember that you can only do a new contract if your current contract is expiring or the rates have changed for your specialty. Submit a contract that is on two pages—i.e., it should be back and front on one sheet.
Remember that Comp Branch (CB) will generally mail a copy of the related personnel orders (PO) directly to the officer and that you will be able to access a copy of the PO’s from your own eOPF within a few days of them being published. Forget that it may take CB up to 90 days to process your MSP request even though they are completing many in less than a month.

Always check with OCCP for special situations.
