HealthierFeds Physical Activity Challenge

To: All Commissioned Corps Officers

From: Acting Surgeon General

Subject: HealthierFeds Physical Activity Challenge

Today, in support of the President's Healthier US Initiative to make disease prevention and health promotion a top priority, Secretary Michael Leavitt announced the HealthierFeds Physical Activity Challenge.

The HealthierFeds Challenge will, among other things, encourage all federal employees to participate in the President's Challenge program by visiting the HealthierFeds website, joining the President's Challenge and recording their physical activities in the site from January 22nd - March 18th.

I plan to meet the challenge!! And, I encourage all commissioned officers to join with me and participate in this important, healthful initiative. Even those that currently meet their physical fitness requirement through the Annual Physical Fitness Test (APFT) and those that are already enrolled in the President's Challenge through the USPHS group can participate in the HealthierFeds Challenge.

If you are already participating in the President's Challenge through the USPHS Group, please enroll in the HHS Group as well (Group ID Number: 54451, Group Name: HHS). Doing so will ensure your activities are counted in both groups. If you have not yet enrolled in the President's Challenge program, please visit the website and enroll in both the USPHS Group (Group ID Number: 13537, Group Name: USPHS) and the HHS Group. Officers may still use the APFT to meet their physical fitness requirement, but participating in the HealthierFeds Physical Activity Challenge by enrolling and participating in the President's Challenge program will be good for you, good for the Corps and good for the Department of Health and Human Services.

Good luck and have fun!

RADM Kenneth Moritsugu
Acting Surgeon General
