Approximately 40 officers from CDC, FDA, Bureau of Prisons, EPA, INS, National Park Service, and the U.S. Coast Guard, representing grades O-2 through O-6, completed the Basic Officers Training Course (BOTC) at the CDC NIOSH Alice Hamilton Laboratory Building in Cincinnati, February 23-25, 2005. Course instructors included CAPT Jan Huy (CDC, NIOSH), CAPT Austin Hayes (CDC, OD), CAPT John Steward (CDC, OD), CDR Dana Taylor (OCCO), and CDR Alan Parham (ATSDR). Officers completing the course will become eligible for the PHS Training Ribbon when they complete the on-line Independent Officers Training Course (IOTC).

Congratulations to all those who completed the course. We appreciate your commitment to becoming even more outstanding PHS Commissioned Officers! Also, special thanks goes to CAPT Huy for her hard work in setting up the course, CDR Taylor for his exceptional mentorship of the aspiring instructors, and to Dr. John Howard, Director, NIOSH, for showing his interest and commitment by speaking to the class on the first day.
