Commissioned Officer Policy Advisory Committee Brown Bag Invitation

As you know, these are times of much change and some uncertainty for the Commissioned Corps. With that in mind, Dr. Gerberding asked The CDC/ATSDR Director’s Commissioned Corps Policy Advisory Committee (CCPAC) to provide some background, context and recommendations to her and to do this consultatively with CDC/ATSDR Commissioned Corps Officers. As a starting point CCPAC composed a draft of a white paper “Transforming the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps: CDC/ATSDR Perspective,” (PDF, 52 KB) which includes 22 recommendations that, if acted upon, will affect all CDC/ATSDR Commissioned Corps Officers. The goal of the white paper is to provide a framework to improve the standing and morale of CDC/ATSDR Corps Officers and provide Dr. Gerberding with talking points for her ongoing discussions with the Secretary about the Corps at CDC/ATSDR. But we want the paper to reflect the input of the Corps as a whole at CDC and ATSDR. We are asking you to participate at one of several upcoming brown bag meetings (listed below) as our first step in obtaining your thoughts and constructive feedback on the draft white paper and its recommendations. We strongly urge you to read it and then attend one of the sessions. At those sessions, we’ll provide an overview of the paper and recommendations, and then offer opportunities for discussion and feedback

The schedule for the brown bags is:

Atlanta (These sessions will not be envisioned)

July 20 - Koger Center/Williams Bldg, Room 1802/1805, 11:30 - 1:30 PM

July 25 - Roybal Campus/Aud. B, 12:00 - 2:00 PM

July 26 - 1825 Century Center/Room 1A & 1B, 12:30 - 2:30 PM

Additional brown bag sessions will be scheduled for field Officers. Details of these brown bags will be provided in a forth coming announcement.

If you cannot attend any of these sessions, you can still provide feedback by completing the white paper feedback form (MS Word, 81 KB) and mailing or faxing it to Mr. Aaron Arnold at (770) 488-1970 or MS K27 by August 15, 2005.

For more information about the CCPAC please go to Frequently Asked Questions regarding the CDC Director’s Commissioned Corps Policy Advisory Committee. We look forward to your feedback on this important draft document.
