Community of Practice Program (CoPP)

The PHIN Communities of Practice Program (CoPP) is a program located within the Division of Informatics Outreach and Education (DIOE) in CDC’s National Center for Public Health Informatics (NCPHI). The Program will provide leadership and resources necessary to support the PHIN Communities of Practice and the associated PHIN Communities of Practice Council. Services provided by the Program may include logistical, strategic, and educational support for each PHIN Community of Practice.

The primary objectives of the Communities of Practice Program are to establish a conceptual framework for Communities of Practice within PHIN; support community communication and collaboration; disseminate best practices and lessons learned to the PHIN community at large; and to guide PHIN CoP operations. By effectively meeting these objectives, the Communities of Practice Program will facilitate and coordinate interactions and partnerships that promote the success and strategic alignment of PHIN Community.

Specific Program goals related to the achievement of the above over-arching objectives include:

  • Create and support the PHIN Communities of Practice Council (CoPC);
  • Strengthen the PHIN social network;
  • Provide facilitation guidance for PHIN CoP operations;
  • Supply an accessible technology platform in support of communication and collaboration;
  • Inform and educate stakeholders about Communities of Practice;
  • Develop tools that assist with determining readiness, planning, launching, evaluating and maintaining CoPs;
  • Foster a comprehensive framework to evaluate the impact a CoP has on PHIN; and,
