You will need a Special Use Permit (SUP) to engage in the following activities on a national wildlife refuge outside Alaska:

Special Use Permit A. Agriculture – haying, grazing, crop planting, logging, beekeeping, and other agricultural products.

B. Commercial Activities – commercial fishing, trapping, and other commercial activities.

C. Research/Monitoring – by students, by universities, or by other non-FWS organizations.

D. Commercial Filming – audio, video, and photographic products with a monetary value.

E. Commercial Visitor Services – outfitter/guides for hunting, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and other visitor services.

F. Special Events – weddings, fishing tournaments, one-time events, and other special events.

G. Other – specify any activity not mentioned above.
The above activities are not necessarily conducted on every refuge. Contact the refuge manager to inquire whether we consider the proposed use appropriate or compatible at the individual refuge.

The permit is not valid until approved and signed by the issuing refuge manager.

It is used primarily to engage in Commercial Visitor Services - outfitter/guides for hunting, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and other visitor services. Special Use Permits are obtained by submitting a Permit Application (PDF) to the appropriate Refuge. Contact the refuge manager for the fee information. The permit must be signed by the refuge manager.
