E-Gov Travel was launched in response to the President's Management Agenda's mission to improve the internal efficiency and effectiveness of the federal government. E-Gov Travel is a collaborative, interagency program. Its purpose is to realize the cost-savings, and increased service associated with a common, automated, and integrated approach to managing the travel function of the federal government’s civilian agencies.

There are thousands of civilian employees who travel for business every day. The common E-Gov Travel Service will replace more than 250 travel-booking practices at various agencies cutting travel management costs by an estimated 50 percent over the next 10 years.
