What will I learn?

 
The primary learning objective for this training is: In addition, you will also be able to:
  • recognize and correct common mistakes made in comparing morbidity and mortality among populations.
  • Point out the potential distortions from displays of data using proportions and propose corrective measures.
  • Identify distortions that result from explicit or implicit comparisons of proportions and/or rankings of cases of diseases or conditions.

Who should participate in this training?

The target audience for this training is:
 
  • Applied epidemiology trainees or trainees of other advanced public health training programs.  Also, anyone who is familiar with the following prerequisites may benefit from this module.
What do I need to know before I begin?

Before you begin this module, you should be familiar with the following prerequisites.

  1. Construct a frequency distribution.
  2. Calculate and interpret the following:
    • Morbidity ratios, proportions, and rates
    • Mortality ratios, proportions, and rates
    • Prevalence and incidence rates
  3. Define ratios, proportions, and rates
