Dennis O'Connor
Assistant Director for Protection/Chief, U.S. Mint Police
Dennis has led numerous police and security functions over the course of his military and civilian career.
Most recently, he was the Regional Director for the Office of the Federal Protective Service (FPS), National
Capital Region, where he has provided security and law enforcement services for 750 Federal facilities housing
more than 300,000 Federal employees and has managed a budget in excess of $60 million. In this position,
he led a force of 200 full-time police officers, inspectors, physical security specialists, training personnel,
and support staff. In addition, he provided oversight to 5,700 contract guards.
He has extensive experience with continuity of operations planning, occupant emergency planning, explosives
detection, hazardous materials protocols, training, change management, and public affairs. Dennis also
served in the United States Air Force for 21 years as a Security Policeman, where he prepared and interpreted
policy in all areas of law enforcement and physical security, and managed a variety of security functions,
including overseas. Dennis has a Master's degree in International Relations from Troy University, and a
Bachelor's degree in Public Administration from Roger Williams University.
