The impact of requiring patient authorization for use of data in medical records research.
Journal of Family Practice 1998;
47(5): 361-5. Of 15,997 patients of a Minnesota medical center asked to give consent for use of medical records in research, under the Minnesota medical data privacy act, 90.6% gave authorization for use of their records and 3.6% refused. High refusal rates were shown among patients who sought treatment for mental illness, eye care, and trauma, and among women 39 and older. [Source: SOTA]
