Post-Operative Nerve Damage and the Removal of the Mandibular Third Molar: A Matter of Common Consent.

34(5): 386-88. One hundred one consultants in oral and maxillofacial surgery units throughout the United Kingdom responded to questionnaires regarding written preoperative warnings of nerve damage from surgical removal of mandibular third molar teeth with local analgesia. Fewer than one-third of these consultants routinely provided written warnings of potential nerve damage to patients. Twothirds routinely provided oral warning, while a small proportion provided no warning at all. [Source: Sugarman, J]
