How informed is signed consent?.
British Medical Journal 1988;
296(6625): 839-40. A study of 100 patients who had undergone surgery two to five days previously indicated that twenty-seven of them were unaware of what organ had been operated on and forty-four did not know the exact nature of the procedure. The 'unaware' group was significantly older than the group of patients who recalled this information. [Source: Sugarman, J]
