Kennedy Institute of Ethics Journal 1992; 2(3): 217-31. One hundred and seventy-three patients were surveyed concerning their opinions on first-time medical procedures by medical students, interns, and residents. A large majority of the patients wanted to know the experience level of the person performing a spinal tap on them, and even more would wish to be informed if it was the individual's first time performing such a procedure.
