  • Taplin D; Nursing and Informed Consent: An Empirical Study. Ethical Issues in Nursing, New York, Routledge 1994; 21-37. Twenty-one men who had a transurethral resection of the prostate and eighteen women who had a dilation and curettage agreed to answer questions regarding their understanding of informed consent materials and their views about informed consent. Respondents received little benefit in terms of understanding from the consent forms. In addition, the timing of the informed consent process seemed to benefit the physicians rather than the patients. [Source: Sugarman, J]
