The Impact of Disease Severity on the Informed Consent Process in Clinical Research.

To examine the efficacy of informed consent for patients with varying levels of disease severity, 127 subjects participating in four different clinical research protocols were assessed for comprehension and memory of informed consent information. Healthier volunteers had better memory of information about risks and side effects, whereas more severely ill patients had better memory for procedural information. [Source: Sugarman, J]
