  • Lambe HA; Hopper KD; Matthews YL; Use of Informed Consent for Ionic and Nonionic Contrast Media. Radiology 1992; 184(1): 145-48. Two hundred and eighty-five physicians responded to a survey of physicians who had billed a specific insurance company for at least three intravenous contrast material enhanced procedures performed in 1989. Given the informed consent policies adopted by the physician groups, slightly more than half of their patients would have been asked to give informed consent for either ionic or nonionic contrast material. Radiologists were less likely to obtain informed consent than other physicians for use of ionic contrast material. Practices associated with larger hospitals, larger physician groups, or a university were less likely to provide information and seek consent for either contrast material than their counterparts.
