  • Fraser AG; Do Patients Want to Be Informed? A Study of Consent for Cardiac Catheterisation. British Heart Journal 1984; 52(4): 468-70. Following cardiac catheterization, 104 patients were interviewed regarding their recall of who had informed them about the procedure, and their recall of specific symptoms, side effects, and complications disclosed during the informed consent process. Fifteen patients reported they had not received an explanation, but nine of these did not want one. In contrast, twenty-one wanted more information but did not have the opportunity to get it. The majority of patients did not recall be ing told about the risk of death associated with the procedure. [Source: Sugarman, J]
