Experienced Consent in Geriatrics Research: A New Method to Optimize the Capacity to Consent in Frail Elderly Subjects.
Journal of Medical Ethics 1997;
23(5): 271-76. To determine whether preliminary research experience could enhance geriatric patients' capacity to consent, seventy geriatric patients considered for a long-term study participated in a week-long tryout, during which weight measurements and bioelectrical impedance were performed daily. Subjects' understanding of risks and inconveniences of the study improved significantly from before to after the try-out. [Source: Sugarman, J]
